You know the feeling. Sometime around noon on Sunday you start remembering that, oh yeah, you��re going back to work tomorrow. Even if you like your job, it��s easy to worry about your workload or a stressful conversation you��ve seen scheduled on your calendar.

These worries make perfect sense. The problem is that, if you��re not careful, they can easily suck the joy out of what��s left of the weekend. Eventually, Monday will arrive whether you worry about it or not. But worrying about Monday over the weekend makes Sunday feel like it��s Monday already.

Fortunately, there��s an easy cure for the Sunday Night Blues. Earlier in the week — say, on Thursday — choose something fun to do on Sunday night. Maybe it��s a game night with friends, or dinner with your partner at your favorite restaurant. Join a volunteer project that meets on Sunday nights, or start one with the help of an organization you admire. If your religion has services on Sunday nights, that��s a good option, or you can meet with a trainer, or sign up for an exercise class you��ve been eager to try. Socializing, exercising and engaging in spiritual activities are — after sex and eating — the most pleasurable things we humans do. So any of these options are great.

But here��s the most important part: block your Sunday night choice onto your calendar. Deal with any logistics (babysitters, tickets) ahead of time. That way, come noon on Sunday, you��ll know you have something to look forward to in your day. That will extend the weekend, and fill your mind with happy thoughts, rather than what��s happening on Monday. With any luck, you won��t think about Monday until roughly 11PM, when it��s too late to wallow in the pain.
