Mom Busted for Hiring Hitman on Facebook

It's not a bad idea to post a job opportunity on Facebook or any other social media site to see who responds -- after all, they allow you to cast a pretty wide net.

For that very same reason, you'd think a would-be murderer would know better than to advertise for a hitman in a public forum -- and that a would-be hitman would know better than to respond there, for all their friends to see.

But perhaps 20-year-old single mother Eley London of Philadelphia was so incensed after a fight she'd had with her child's father, Corey Jerome White, that she really didn't stop to think before posting: "I will pay somebody a stack to kill my baby father." A "stack" refers to $1,000.

Who knows why 18-year-old Tim Bynum replied to London's message, posting that he would do the dirty deed, just so he got paid in advance? In any case, the mother of the intended victim read the Facebook exchange, became concerned, and alerted her son and authorities. The Philadelphia police handled it from there.

London was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, and is being held on $250,000 bail. Bynum, whose Facebook profile picture shows him aiming a gun, was arrested and charged with attempted murder as well as a weapons charge. He is being held on $350,000 bail.

"It's shocking that people are just so stupid," Lieutenant John Walker told an NBC Philadelphia reporter. "This is just pure stupidity on behalf of both parties."
