George Best City Airport...

Belfast City Airport is located two miles east of Belfast City. Originally called "Sydenham Airport" the first plane landed here in 1937, it was then taken over by the RFU during the Second World War and was used as a military base until the 1970's where it then became a commercial airport and changed its name to "Belfast Harbour Airport", followed by "Belfast City Airport". In 2006 the airport again changed its name to "George Best City Airport" in honour of the football legend George Best who was a native of East Belfast. Today George Best City Airport has become a platform for tourist and business travellers from all over the world and keeps its name!
