The good news is that President Obama is creating a few jobs of his own, as he gears up for his 2012 campaign. The bad news is that Oprah is eliminating jobs, now that her daily talk show has finished its run.

President Obama's 2012 campaign team, which they're calling "Obama for America," is gearing up, and has posted several job listings on mediabistro. "We're going to run the most effective, creative, and innovative digital campaign in the history of politics, and our digital team will be core to achieving the communications, fund raising and organizing goals of the cause," read the ads.

There are listings for four positions, and each contains a number of openings within. For example, if you click on Writers, you'll find that they need "talented writers and editors to join our digital team." There are also openings for designers, developers and program managers.

All offer salaries that are "commensurate with experience and qualifications" as well as a benefits plan. And all the positions are based in Chicago, which is a good thing, because Oprah is in the process of reducing her staff in Chicago.

The layoffs began May 25, when the final episode of her popular talk show aired, and they will continue through the summer. The exact number of jobs lost is as yet undisclosed. The Huffington Post reports that approximately 50 people have opted to go with Winfrey to Los Angeles to work for her new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Others will continue to work on new shows that originate or are produced, in Chicago, including Rosie O'Donnell's new OWN talk show. Up until the end of May, there were approximately 400 employees at Harpo Studios, and it looks like about 250 of them will be jobless soon. Many saw the writing on the wall, and already have left to pursue other interests, according to a Harpo spokeswoman.

Perhaps the rest can apply for the Obama campaign positions.
